The Virginia Gold Cup is one of the oldest organized steeplechase races in the United States. Founded originally in 1922, The Virginia Gold Cup (VGC) came to Great Meadow in 1984.
The Virginia Gold Cup, like no other race, tests the stamina of horse and jockey. A four-mile course over four-foot post and rail timber fences across the rolling hillside of the Virginia Piedmont challenges the equine athletes while exciting the crowds.
The races are held twice annually, The Virginia Gold Cup in May, and the International Gold Cup in October.
